Hemendra Shah, MD, FACR, Professor of Radiology and Urology, is recognized as the leading opinion in body CT in the state of Arkansas.
In practice at UAMS since 1982, he has educated and trained hundreds of medical students, residents and fellows. His teaching responsibilities include one-on-one CT, ultrasound teaching while reading cases at the PACS station/view box, weekly CT conferences, and categorical courses including ultrasound, GI, GU, chest, and vascular with special emphasis on role of CT. He supervised and taught Body MSK/MRI from the time we got our first MRI in 1986 until 2000.
Residents have honored him with the Residents' Award of Distinction, given annually to the faculty member who best exemplifies support of the residents, dedication to teaching, and excellence in the practice of radiology, 5 times, as well as the Charles Kevin Roberts, DO, Professionalism Award 5 times. Medical students have given him a Red Sash award 10 times.
Dr. Shah earned his medical degree in 1970 and Master of Surgery from Gujarat University at Ahmedabad, India in 1973. He completed his radiology residency at Beth Israel Medical center Newark, NJ in 1981. He completed a fellowship in CT, US and NM at UAMS before joining the faculty in Body Imaging.
