Dr. Lane grew up in Abilene, Texas and graduated from Rice University in Houston in 1986. He graduated from UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, in 1990. His Family Medicine residency training was in Tucson with another U of A, University of Arizona.
His first two years after training, Dr. Lane practiced rural medicine including obstetrics in Eagle Lake, Texas. He then worked in the NASA area of Houston for 10 years. He and his family moved to New Zealand in 2005 where he practiced rural medicine at the Otaki Medical Centre for six years. There he gained Fellowship (similar to board certification) in the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners. Upon his return to the US in 2011 he was employed by Sparks Regional Medical Center at the Greenwood Family Medical Clinic. Over the years, he has had several interesting locum tenens assignments, too.
Dr. Lane moved to UAMS West on April 1, 2014 to join the faculty. He has special interest in out-patient care, geriatric and nursing home care, cross-cultural medical practice and responsible use of limited health care resources.
Other interests include outdoor sports (canoeing, hiking, and sailing). His daughter Isabel graduated Southside High School and studies at the University of Puget Sound; and son Joseph lives and works in New Zealand. Wife of more than 20 years, Leah is the Director at the Literacy Council of Western Arkansas. Before meeting John, she obtained a Master’s degree in Health Care Administration.
