Dr. Stephenson is an assistant professor of hand and upper extremity surgery in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He also practices pediatric hand and upper extremity surgery at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
He graduated from UAMS College of Medicine in 2007 where he received several scholarships for ethical, humanitarian, and academic achievement. He then completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery through the UAMS and ACH graduating in 2012. He was selected for a fellowship in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA through the world renowned Philadelphia Hand Center under the direction of A. Lee Osterman, MD. The Philadelphia Hand Center served as hand surgery consultants for the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, 76ers, and Villanova University. During his fellowship, he also had the opportunity to train in complex pediatric hand surgery at the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia under the direction of Scott Kozin, MD.
His clinical and research interests include complex trauma and reconstruction involving the hand and wrist. He also has a special interest in nerve repair and reconstruction due to injury. He has received advanced training in arthroscopic management of hand and wrist disorders, as well as management of arthritic conditions involving the upper extremity.
He has been published in textbooks and international peer reviewed medical journals. He has also been an invited instructor for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons/American Society for Surgery of the Hand at their hands on skills courses for surgeons from around the world. He has lectured and presented research at multiple national, regional, and state meetings.
He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons where he has been selected to serve on clinical advisory committees related to the upper extremity and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand where he is an elected member of the young members steering committee and a consultant reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery.
